Dining In Kern County, dining is an art form. For those who understand the difference between "eating" and "dining", Kern is a virtual smorgasbord of ethnic tastes and treats.

Fine dining, traditional American (including barbecue), Chinese, German, Indian, Italian, Japanese, Mexican and Vietnamese cuisines are all represented here. But most of all, Kern is known for Basque food.

If you've never been to a Basque restaurant, you're in for a treat. The Basque are highly appreciative of food, and they serve it abundantly. Most meals include soup, salad, bread,

salsa and beans before you get to the entrée of steak, seafood, lamb or poultry; accompanied by a variety of vegetables and potatoes.

And Kern offers much more. Most of the major chains are represented, but you can also find a vast assortment of locally-owned and operated restaurants that range from home-style Italian fare, traditional Mexican food or even our own cowboy cuisine.
